What common mistakes do business travelers make when visiting Sydney?
One of the most common mistakes travelers make is not booking their accommodation far enough in advance. As Australia’s international gateway and a top destination for domestic and international visitors, Sydney attracts visitors year-round. In March 2024, Sydney ranked first among all Australian capital cities for total domestic tourist arrivals. To ensure the best price and availability, booking as early as possible is highly recommended.
Also, if you plan to be outdoors for long periods of time, wear sun protective clothing and apply sunscreen, as the UV Index can reach extreme levels of 11+ in the summer and often exceeds 3 in the winter.
What are the best and worst times of year to travel to Sydney? Why?
There really is no wrong time to visit this incredible city. Sydney has a relatively mild climate year-round; however, many international visitors, especially from the northern hemisphere, may be surprised by the cooler winter temperatures from June to August. Winter temperatures average 8.8 to 17°C (47.8 to 62.6°F), which is still mild compared to many places, but be sure to bring some warm clothes! If you’re planning to combine business travel with leisure and want to experience the Australian sun and surf, the warm summer months of November to February are ideal.
Additionally, travelers should be aware of major events throughout the year, as these can affect prices and transportation in the city. One event of note is Vivid Sydney, usually held in May and June and attracting over 2 million visitors.
