Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie is an award-winning luxury hotel in the heart of Rome. After an impressive stay during the peak summer period, I was eager to stay at this hotel again. Read the Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie Rome review to learn more about the incredible hotel and guest experience.
Russian hotel history
Designed by architect Giuseppe Valadier in the 19th century, the Hotel de Russie is known as the “Grand Hotel of Russia and the British Isles”. The building has played many roles throughout its eventful history. It was once the headquarters of a leading Italian television channel. The hotel was acquired by the Rocco Forte family, whose history in the hotel business dates back to 1911, and reopened in 2000 as Hotel de Russie.
Russia hotel location
The Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie is located next to Piazza del Popolo in Rome’s coveted Tridente neighbourhood. It is close to many historical attractions, including the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona) and the Pantheon. Shoppers enjoy being close to the boutiques along Via Condotti and Via del Corso.
Arrival and check-in
For a seamless arrival experience, please contact the Hotel de Russie concierge and request a private transfer. After we picked up our luggage at Rome Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino Airport (FCO), our driver picked us up. Then, within an hour, the doorman warmly welcomed us into the flower-filled lobby of the Hotel de Russie.
Check-in was smooth, we were escorted to the junior suite (see video below) and the table was stocked with a thoughtful welcome gift including a selection of bottled drinks, local apricots, Parmesan cheese and nuts.
Russian Rooms and Suites
The Hotel de Russie’s 120 rooms and suites are decorated in natural tones of blue, gray and green. Rooms combine luxury and comfort with design elements such as timeless furnishings, quality fabrics and Roman-style sculptures inspired by ancient Rome.
The Italian marble bathroom is serene and luxurious, with plush bathrobes, slippers and thick towels. Bathroom amenities include exclusive Irene Forte body and skin care products, formulated with selected Italian botanical extracts.
The king-size bed in the spacious junior suite is extremely comfortable, with plush down pillows and crisp, comfortable linens. An evening turndown service refreshes the room, with luxury slippers on the floor mat next to the bed. Blinds on the floor-to-ceiling windows promote deep, restorative sleep.
The family accommodation at Hotel de Russie consists of 2 connecting luxury rooms. This option creates plenty of space for parents and children to stretch out and relax. Until January 7, 2025, the whole family can stay in a one-of-a-kind fairy tale suite designed by iconic British toy manufacturer Hamleys. This limited time opportunity celebrates the opening of Hamleys, the world’s oldest toy manufacturer, in Rome. Featuring Hamleys’ signature red, white and gold murals, plenty of teddy bears and a special play area, the Fairytale Suite is the next best thing to a night in a toy store.

Dining at the Rocco Ford Hotel in Russia
Rome has many great restaurants, bars and cafes. Luckily, two of them are at the Rocco Forte Hotel de Russie in Rome.
russian garden
Le Jardin de Russie’s creative Italian cuisine is inspired by ingredients from the Mediterranean region, with local menu items including cacio e pepe, fresh tomato and basil pasta. Breakfast is an excellent choice, especially if you are lucky enough to be a guest of the Hotel de Russie. Lunch and dinner service is available under the chandeliers of the elegant, light-filled restaurant or outside in the Hotel de Russie’s lush secret garden.
Stravinsky Bar
Guests of the Hotel de Russie, locals and city visitors gather under towering trees and fragrant plants in the cobbled outdoor square of Stravinskij Bar. Here they sampled Stravinskij Bar’s newly designed drinks menu, inspired by the hotel’s historic Secret Garden. Herbs, flowers and other plants grown in the hotel’s tiered green spaces add flavor to creative and delicious cocktails.
I recommend the Stravinsky signature cocktail, which contains sparkling wine, wild berries, saffron, citrus essential oils, passion fruit and aromatic spices. Another delicious drink is the Garden Punch, made with Appleton 12 YO rum, Amaro Braulio, Grand Marnier, Champagne and a special blend of herbs and spices inspired by the Hotel de Russie’s gardens.
The secret garden of Hotel de Russie in Rome
Passing through the Hotel de Russie lobby and outside the cobblestone courtyard, paths wind through fragrant plants, babbling water features and tall magnolia trees in the hotel’s 2,800 square meters of terraced secret gardens. Created by Giuseppe Valadier in the 19th century, the Secret Garden is one of the quietest and most sheltered places in the city. The mature flora, smells, sights and tranquil sounds of this urban oasis make the impressive Hotel de Russie even more striking. The Secret Garden is a great retreat from the heat and hustle and bustle of the city. This botanical oasis is accessible to hotel guests and anyone dining at Le Jardin de Russie or Stravinskij Bar.
For a unique experience, up to four guests can dine at a special table in the restaurant secret garden.
