What’s more, this gem of the Italian Riviera is small and easy to experience on foot. I had a great time at this charming and luxurious harbor and love sharing tips. So read on to learn about the highlights of a day trip to Portofino, Italy.
In the Liguria region italian riviera, Portofino Located in the Gulf of Tigullio near Genoa. This charming fishing village is also a vacation spot for the rich and famous. Portofino’s harbor is filled with luxury yachts and lined with colorful buildings. Additionally, it is sheltered by the verdant Portofino hills.
The village belongs to the Portofino Regional National Park and Marine Reserve. The cobbled roads and alleys are filled with quaint shops, beautiful boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Additionally, the signature dish of the Liguria region is pesto, a sauce made from basil, pine nuts, garlic and feta cheese.
Portofino is a village surrounded by natural beauty, historical landmarks, shopping centers and restaurants within walking distance. The best way to spend a day in Portofino is to explore on foot. Here are the highlights worth seeing along the way.

The best place to start your day in Portofino is in the main square, La Piazzetta, with its colorful buildings on the picturesque harbour. From here you can walk to many popular attractions such as Portofino Marina, San Martino Church, Brown Castle, Parco Museum, shopping centers and restaurants. All these attractions are within 5 to 10 minutes’ walk.
Portofino Pier
This marina is where luxury yachts moor during their stay in Portofino. The lifestyle of the rich and famous is nothing short of amazing. In addition, ferries and fishing boats come to the area. I arrived at this ocean paradise by dinghy from a docked cruise ship.

Next to the Marina del Portofino sign is the entrance to this unique sculpture park. The entrance is near the marina with signs that lead you through the Museo del Parco or the Park Museum. This park was built in the eighties on a terrace below the cliff. It displays exotic plants as well as sculptures from more than 100 different artists. It was a shame to miss this park as it was closed during my visit.

this church of san martino Dates go back to 11th century, is the symbol of Portofino. Its bell tower appears on La Piazzetta’s main skyline along with other colorful buildings. From the main square, go right between the buildings and take the steps to the entrance. The church has a three-nave design and a rose window on the exterior wall. It is dedicated to Martin of Tours and admission is free.
Stroll the sidewalks for shopping and dining
The streets are lined with clothing boutiques, souvenir shops, designer jewelry stores and restaurants. I purchased a cute (and reasonably priced) summer dress at: Antika Sartoria. If you take the time, Portofino has something for everyone to enjoy shopping.
The harbor front is packed with restaurants and cafes offering outdoor seating. However, I followed a narrow alleyway to a quaint, quiet place. Da U Batti Restaurant In a small square. Here, I had the opportunity to taste the signature dish of the Ligurian region – pasta with pesto sauce. Bon Appetit!
Walk up the hill to St George’s Church, Brown Castle and the lighthouse
A wonderful path takes you up the hill to St George’s Church, Brown’s Castle and the lighthouse. It has a moderate slope and intermittent shade. This trail is popular for good reason. Not only are these 3 stops fun, but they also offer the most incredible views of Portofino Harbor and downtown. Overall, the uphill walking time between each location is approximately 10 minutes.
St. George’s Church
The first stop is St. George’s Churchdedicated to Saint George, patron saint of Portofino.
It contains relics of St. George brought by sailors returning from the Crusades. This Roman Catholic church was destroyed and rebuilt after World War II. Additionally, there is an interesting cemetery behind this yellow church.
Here, the views over Portofino Harbor are fantastic, but keep climbing because the best views are at Brown Castle.

Portofino Italy Walking Tour
this brown castle is a medieval fortress dating back to the 15th centuryth century. The castle is surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean gardens and offers the most stunning views of Portofino Harbour. Additionally, the interior of the castle displays bas-reliefs and furniture made of marble or slate. It is named after its first private owner from 1867 to 1905, Montagu Yeats Brown, the British consul from Genoa. Overall, this fortress has been dedicated to the military defense of the Portofino since the 15th century.th century.
Portofino lighthouse or Faludi Portofino
A 10-minute walk from the Castello Brown Hotel portofino lighthouse. This white lighthouse sits on a sea cliff, 130 feet above sea level. It is located at the western end of the Portofino peninsula and offers stunning views over the Gulf of Tigullio. Additionally, there is a café at the base of the lighthouse with stunning views of the sea below.
Bayacano Beach
This little bay and Baia Cannone Beach Just a short walk from the city center. Trees and villas (such as the famous Mondadori) dot the hillsides surrounding the beach. Its waters are crystal clear and yachts are moored in front.

Christ of the Abyss The statue is located 17 meters (56 feet) underwater. Its purpose is to protect scuba divers and fishermen, representing Christ in a blessed way. Sculpted by Guido Galletti in 1954, this is an interesting place for scuba divers to explore.

The park is located among sea cliffs and hiking trails, offering panoramic views of the ocean marine protected areas Same name.
