global access is a trusted traveler program run by the U.S. government that gives you access to TSA PreCheck security lanes and Accelerate re-entry into the United States from abroad.
What is global access?
Global Entry is a Customs and Border Protection program that allows its members to quickly re-enter the United States at airports and at the Canadian and Mexican borders. In addition to expedited re-entry, the trusted traveler membership number provided to you in Global Entry also qualifies you for TSA Pre-Check with participating airlines and airports.
Global Entry members go directly to the Global Entry kiosk after getting off the plane. Some kiosks require you to insert your passport, scan your fingerprints and answer some questions on a screen. You will then receive a note to show to customs officers on your way out letting them know if you have goods to declare. Other airports have more advanced technology that will use facial recognition technology in conjunction with the passenger manifest to identify you without even inserting your passport.
U.S. citizens and certain permanent residents are eligible to apply. (see CPB website Learn more details about the requirements. ) Children under 18 years of age must have parental or legal guardian consent to enroll.
Do my children need Global Entry as well?
Yes, everyone who wants to use Global Entry when re-entering the United States must have their own separate Global Entry membership, regardless of age.

What is the global cost of entry?
Global Entry charges a $100 non-refundable application fee, but once you’re accepted into the program, membership is good for 5 years (so effectively $20 per year, which is an amazing deal).
Each applicant must create a Global Online Enrollment System account, pay a $100 non-refundable application fee, and schedule an interview at a Global Enrollment Center. If you are applying for a child under 18, you must accompany them to the interview.
(1) Get a passport
You will need to provide your passport information to apply. Parents – Once your child gets a Social Security card, they can also get a passport.
(2) Create a Trusted Traveler Program account
Each applicant, regardless of age, will need a separate account. Click Get Started under the Global Entry program description.
(3) Log in to your Trusted Traveler Programs account and apply for Global Entry
After creating your account, you can log in to your account at login.gov
(4) Arrange and attend interviews
Shortly after completing your application online and paying the $100 fee, you will be notified of your conditional approval. Once you receive this approval, you can schedule an interview at the Global Entry Enrollment Center. A parent or guardian must accompany their child to the interview, and each applicant must schedule a separate interview time.
Bring your child’s passport and other information listed in the CPB email. If your application is approved, a CPB officer will take fingerprints and complete the final paperwork. (Very young children may be exempt from the fingerprint requirement).
(5) Get your card and notify the airline of your trusted traveler number
When you receive your Global Entry membership card in the mail, follow the instructions in the letter that came with the card to activate it online.
Make a note of your trusted traveler number, as you will need to add this number to your traveler profile on every airline you fly. This step is crucial. If you don’t tell the airline that you have a trusted passenger number, the system won’t be able to match your name, and “TSA PreCheck” may not print on your boarding pass.
Once activated, keep the card in a safe place. You do not need it for international travel unless you are using it as proof of identity to re-enter the United States through Canada or Mexico via a SENTRI or NEXUS travel lane.
