KLM will launch flights between Amsterdam and Ljubljana next year, marking its entry into the Slovenian market. The airline will start daily flights between the two cities on March 30 and will use 100-seat Embraer E190 aircraft to maintain the flights. Flights between the two cities are currently operated by KLM’s low-cost subsidiary Transavia. For now, the flight will continue to operate between the two, with four flights per week next summer, using a mix of 232-seat Airbus A321neo and 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft. In the first three quarters of this year, Transavia carried a total of 45,771 passengers between Amsterdam and Ljubljana. This number represents a 51.3% increase over the same period in 2023, or an increase of 15,510 customers. However, the main reason for the increase is the reduction in the number of flights last year when Transavia suspended services on the route between February and late March. In the first nine months of this year, the average passenger load factor between the two cities was 86%. Before the collapse of Slovenia’s flagship airline Adria Airways, in the summer of 2019, Ljubljana-Amsterdam flights maintained 11 flights per week, including 6 flights per week for Adria Airways and 5 flights per week for Transavia. This means that service levels between the two cities will return to pre-pandemic levels next summer.
Slovenia becomes the third market in the former Yugoslavia served directly by KLM. The airline also operates flights to Croatia and Serbia. In the coming summer of 2025, the Dutch airline plans to maintain two daily flights to Zagreb and Belgrade, and nine weekly flights to Dubrov during the peak season in July and August Nick’s flights and 20 flights per week to Split. In addition to the new Ljubljana route, the airline will operate 64 weekly flights to these three markets. KLM becomes the second member of the SkyTeam alliance to serve Ljubljana, complementing its group partner Air France.
