When many people think of tropical vacations, they immediately think of the Caribbean or Mexico, not Central America. Costa Rica has become increasingly popular over the past few years for its stunning jungle and beach adventures. Costa Rica has a wide variety of activities, beaches, and accommodations to suit everyone.
There are 2 international airports in Costa Rica. One airport is located in the city center and the capital, San Jose, while the other is located further north, close to most all-inclusive resorts in Liberia.
My husband and I decided that if Hawaii and Mexico had a baby, it would be Costa Rica. Everyone loves Hawaii with its stunning mountains and lush jungles, but it’s much closer and cheaper! You also have some all-inclusive resorts and Caribbean beaches, like Mexico.
Our family found many great activities to keep busy, many of which were cheaper than other places. Zip lining is a perfect example. In Hawaii, spending more than $150 per person to go ziplining is nothing. In Costa Rica, we can easily find adventure parks that offer zip lines for around $50 per person. We also found the food to be very reasonable. For only $5 per person at a local little shop called “Soda” we could eat like kings. The wildlife here is amazing! We also saw many different birds, monkeys, sloths, etc.
One of our favorite experiences was visiting the hot springs. There are many hot spring baths all over the country. All of Costa Rica’s volcanic activity makes for great spa facilities and the perfect place to relax and unwind. Costa Rica is also home to a lot of sport fishing. It’s so popular that I highly recommend booking your fishing trip in advance as they book up months in advance.
