It’s no secret; I’ve been obsessed with polar travel for years.
In fact, I’ve become so obsessed that I now Adventure Guidespending about half of their time at sea in Antarctica and the Arctic. I’m not slowing down anytime soon. I’ve started the three month season Canadian Adventure Park This summer in Arctic Canada and Greenland.
These polar regions are nearly inaccessible. The easiest and most efficient way to get around is on an expedition ship. Sea ice seals off the Arctic for most of the year. Only during the summer months does it melt enough to allow entry. Most people travel by small plane, boat, or snowmobile (in winter). Personally, I find this isolation interesting.
Here, whales swam right next to us, polar bears poked their heads out from behind the sea ice, and colorful communities gave us the most incredible welcome. The Arctic is vast, wild and unpredictable. It gets deep into your skin.
If you already want to go, you can fill out this form and I’ll help you find your dream trip!
I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on my work over the years, blogging, writing, and taking photos. I created a career out of thin air and got paid to travel the world and write articles. But honestly, since the pandemic, I’ve been feeling a little disappointed. I’m tired of the hustle and bustle. I’m tired of meaningless competition. It’s not good for my head space or creativity.
Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change the past. But I think I’ve grown and embarked on a new path that I’m eager to explore more. guide.
Visiting the Arctic and writing about it is not enough for me. Deep down, I longed to be part of a team, a community again. Canadian Adventure Park It feels like family. Owned and operated by three siblings (started by their father, uncle, and friends), you’ll feel a connection like no other once you step on board. The same tour guides always come back year after year – it feels like going to summer camp and reuniting with all your friends. So do passengers.
On most trips, half of the passengers had previously traveled on AC and returned. I mean, you can’t invent this kind of loyalty.
I know it sounds cheesy, but working in the Arctic fulfills me in a way I didn’t know I needed. It’s very hard work, but so worth it. I feel like I belong here. This is an area that I know very well and I love sharing it with others.
I do it whether I’m driving on an iceberg the size of a skyscraper, searching for wildlife with binoculars on a bridge, or listening to live music with everyone at night as we head to our next destination. I’m so happy. On one trip last year alone I saw 20 polar bearincluding a mother and calf eating a beluga whale. I walked on sea ice, followed in Franklin’s footsteps to Beechey Island, and fell asleep under Greenland’s dancing Northern Lights. I mean, come on!
For a year, I thought about the direction of my work, but it always ended up in the same place: polar travel. So, I decided to try something new. In addition to continuing to write and share travel stories, I will also start selling polar travel.
If you or someone you know is interested travel to the arcticlet me help you plan a perfect trip.
Almost like a travel agent, I make a small commission if someone books a trip to the Arctic through my recommendation. I know no one likes being sold to, me included, but I hope that by using my knowledge, skills and experience in the Arctic to help people book the perfect trip there, it will be worth it. I also go on a lot of trips so you can travel with me (if you want, haha). I’m funny, I swear!
To be honest, I’ve already done this kind of thing anyway; it just makes it more practical and official. It’s very important to me to be honest about this. Changing the direction of my income meant I could take a step back from the influencer world and focus on what I truly loved. It will get me back to being creative, playing and having fun. It also gives me the freedom to talk about the polar regions I love. Sorry, not sorry.
I promise I won’t be bothered by it either.
